My 500GB WD external hasn't been backing up properly with time machine lately. I tried manual and automatic backups, but no luck. "What the eff is wrong with it?" was my initial reaction; A corrupted file was my second guess. After googling for Error 11, I found that 11 wasn't my only error, but that I also had an error -36 and -8062 after searching my Console. I'd always heard of terminal as being the place to go searching for errors, but Console did the trick! I still don't know what error -8062 is, but -36 showed me the file that was corrupted: Previous Systems, and -8062 mentioned it also. I have no clue what that folder was doing on my hard drive, because, really, what do I need with a previous system? Anyway, it had a bunch of icons as illustrated, with the little Ø over a generic icon.
My last backup previous to my string of attempts over the past week was May 6; Previous Systems was created May 8. I'm not a religious backer upper, for lack of a better term, because I move my computer around a lot and the FW800 cable that came with my external is wiggly, which results in a lot of improper disconnection and me getting frustrated and not carrying my external all over the house. Point being, the computer hadn't backed up since the file was created.
Solution: I moved the Previous Systems folder to the trash and my Time Machine is now working happily using USB 2.0.
